Autumn Term – Self image

This unit covers; Line, tone, colour, texture, painting, collage, digital media, printing, mixed media

IDEAS

  • Cut photograph in ½ and complete by drawing /painting the other half.
  • Cut photograph into strips, arrange with spaces to elongate / warp.
  • Look in mirror and draw own face.
  • Use paper plate, cut out features and place correctly, add hair
  • Talk about symmetry in face.
  • Photomontage of faces cut from magazines
  • Discuss proportions: hand = length of face, ears =length from eyes to mouth Hand and foot prints
  • Silhouettes
  • Use of Family photographs
  • Face painting
  • Use of digital camera to take portrait
  • Clay portrait / mask
  • Collage using overlay of tissue paper
  • Collage their names with Bridget Riley background
  • Create poster about themselves
  • Trace A4 photo of self, transfer to paper then: paint, chalk / oil pastel, collage, ink & bleach
  • Printing using lino / poly block

Spring Term – What’s in a building?

This Unit Covers; Pattern, texture, shape, form, space, sculpture.

IDEAS

  • Walk round school and take rubbings from different surfaces
  • Recreate rubbings using different pencil marks
  • Make a collage using rubbings
  • Look through windows and discuss what can be seen
  • Make up own view through window and then surround with window frame
  • Photomontage of building pictures from around the world
  • Take photographs of local buildings
  • Describe and draw own bedroom/ house
  • Feel different surfaces and describe textures (rough, smooth) can you see through them (transparent, translucent, opaque)
  • Discuss the purpose of different buildings – church / school / home /shops etc
  • Look at the work of Gaudi and use natural objects to create your own designs

Summer Term – Recreating Landscapes

This Unit Covers; Pattern, shape, texture, form, space, printmaking, textiles

IDEAS

  • Look at and describe landscape paintings
  • Choose landscape picture and copy using mixed medium
  • Using coloured paper from magazines and tearing into small pieces recreate chosen landscape gloss with PVA
  • Take chosen landscape draw out main lines, glue on string and use to print
  • Divide a landscape picture into squares, each pupil to have a square, copy then reassemble the landscape
  • Create a 3D landscape –paint a background, using card make hills/trees etc and glue to make middle and fore ground
