The PSHCE curriculum is designed to build our students’ confidence and improve their health and wellbeing. It covers bullying, friendship, respect, equality, emotions, health and hygiene, puberty and sex and relationship education, drugs, alcohol, smoking, staying safe, rights and responsibilities, the law, government, poverty and money management. The curriculum is age and level appropriate for our students.
PSHCE lessons involve active learning through discussion, investigations, role play, group work and problem solving. In key Stage 4 groups have a residential opportunity promoting social development and increasing independence. Throughout the year there are specific workshops, visiting speakers and regular PSHCE themed days.
We are a UNICEF Rights and Respect school. We also achieved recognition from Investors in Children in 2014 becoming one of the few Special Schools in the country celebrating “student voice” to meet all the criteria for this award.
