As a trauma-informed practitioner, this role involves supporting children and young people with their emotions and how best to regulate and identify them. The role requires the creation of a safe, supportive, and predictable environment where students feel valued and respected. Learning is approached with patience, empathy, and consistency, based on an understanding that behaviour is a form of communication and that building trust is key to progress.
Creative moments are also used to co-create expectations for the lesson, asking students to share what they would like from their time together. This process ensures they feel listened to and gives them some control over their learning experience, which is vital for building confidence and trust. These sessions are 1-1 and child-led.
